Another fantastic Engine Expo!

“The latest generation of engine and transmission components on show this week has really been impressive,” said Graham Johnson, managing director of UKIP Media & Events, organizer of Engine Expo in Novi, Michigan, USA. “And visitors have benefited from seeing almost 100 advanced powertrain testing and validation technologies in the neighboring Automotive Testing Expo too. It’s been a highly enjoyable and educational week.”

Several exhibitors took the opportunity to introduce state-of-the-art products and new technologies at the Suburban Collection Showplace. Among the unveilings was Alphabox, a new diagnostic system for two- and four-stroke diesel engines by Jaquet. Providing continuous monitoring of the state of an engine, Alphabox can simultaneously diagnose turbochargers in parallel with the motor itself.

“Measurements on two-stroke engines have confirmed that Alphabox can support the operators of fleets of diesel engines, reduce operating costs and extend the lifetime of the engines to a maximum, by ensuring that the diesel engines operate in an optimal thermodynamic and mechanical condition,” said booth rep Eleanor Low. “As a result, Alphabox has enormous potential for employment in both two- and four-stroke engines, independent of their application.”

On the Miba booth, the company, which produces sintered components, engine bearings, friction materials, power electronics components and coatings, shared its revenue and earnings for the first half of the year. Revenue for February to July was US$410m, up from US$409m the previous year.

Chairman of the Miba management board, F Peter Mitterbauer, stated, “Last year’s picture continues. Strong demand from the automotive sector is offset by a further weakening of the capital goods industry.”

The company benefited from positive developments in the automotive industry in all regions, and continues to invest. Purchases of property, plant and equipment and intangible assets in the first half of 2016-2017 amounted to US$34.7m.
